You see your local news and local sports news and local business news etc in a local paper. WHO finds out about them if the paper doesn’t get a news tip?

Whether it’s local news or cable, it’s women doing news, women doing weather and women doing features. Of course, I use the term news very loosely.

No offense, but it’s hard to take those chirpy high voices at 6AM. I’d rather have some gravitas in the morning.

ID theft continues everyday (4/3/08)

Dear friends and readers:

In my previous blogs and bulletins, I discussed ID theft/fraud and scams.

Listen to the reports/news about a neighbor (a couple) in an apartment stolen other neighbors ID and lived richly OFF those people’s IDs.

There are so many other ways for Identity theft Fraud.  Such as

1.  People looking over your shoulder in the stores.

2.  Stealing your mail from your mail boxes (home or post office).

3.  You losing your valet and not immediately reporting the loss to the police, your creditors and banks.

4.  You provided your credit card to a company for a purchased and the company keeps charging your account when the authorized charge was only SUPPOSED TO BE for one transaction.  “fraud spree”

5.  ID assumption. Like the couple on the CNN news have done with their neighbors.  (go to the link above)

6.  Electronic transactions.  A lot of us think that the internet or Cell phones are safe.  In fact they are the unsafest and the easiest method for Stolen ID or account information.

7.  Lost your keys?  I have seen key chains and key valets in which the owners address is engraved on the valet of key chain.  What a silly idea!?!  If you lose your key and a stranger finds it, now you are letting the stranger where you live.  Why don’t you also note the hours you won’t be home and the combination to your safety deposit box and your security key code so that if he/she decided to visit your home (while you’re away), he/she would feel at home.  If I lose my keys, I will make it less troublesome for me and let the police know (IMMEDIATELY MAKE A REPORT).  If I have to take a drastic measure, I will change my house door locks and possibly do the same with my cars.

Making a report WILL PROTECT YOU IN DISPUTING CHARGES, ACCOUNTS and rescues you from a whole long list of other troubles.

“If the keys are surely lost, let it stay lost.”  Don’t invite strangers to your domain.

There are some websites that claim to be secured websites, but in reality they are not.

I still like to do my “on-line” transactions over my land line phones.  If I truly have to perform an “on -line” transactions, I will LIMIT such transactions to particular TRUSTED companies and through ONE particular bank account in which I review every day *(as a lot of my transactions go through that account and it requires me to monitor the account closely).  You may say, “who has time to monitor an account daily?”.  Believe me when it is your money, credit and life “on the line”, you will protect it (IF YOU CARE).

Anyway, I don’t agree with some people who hand their credit cards to someone they recently met, their car keys to a newly found friends

Best of Luck,

Mike Samadi

I know that I have been addicted to news and the presidential elections ever since I was 5 y.o. and now I have 3 grown children. I even like C-Span, and watch programs that bash Bush and the US government. In other words, I watch a balanced coverage of the news. I have subscribed to news magazines since I was 17, many years ago. I write letters to the editor. My cousins have either been elected or appointed to some very high federal offices in this country. So, it may be in my blood to be well-informed politically. My grandfather was a personal friend of Sam Rayburn of TX. My husband wishes that I would not be so pro-active, but I come from a long line of public servants of all stripes and parties. You would be surprised, but some some of my cousins’ legal opinions still have much power over our daily lives today!

Sometimes I get sick of searching all the big sports sites just to find the news I am looking for or just different sports news in general. This makes me wonder, are there any sites that have sports news from many different sites on one page?

The world of entertainment holds great fascination for the young and old alike. It is a magical world with heroes, heroines, and rags to riches stories, romance and more. The year 2006 was full of excitement and of the many eventful happenings the most popular stories followed avidly through all media avenues were:

1. Death of Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter who brought the world close to crocs through his many films and talks. His death by a croc a species he loved and as devoted to shocked the world.

2. Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond was trying to break a land speed record which resulted in a high speed crash. The news of his accident and injuries spread like wild fire.

3. The British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen scored a huge box office hit when he shocked and offended ordinary Americans. He was adjudged as one of the “men of entertainment of 2006.”

4. The guerrilla artist Bansky hit headlines when he dared to replace Paris Hilton CD with his own CD of remixes titled “Why am I famous? And What am I for.”

5. Romance turned sour always interests fans and Sir Paul McCartney’s split with Heather Mills was blockbuster news.

6. The Oscars were swept away by a dark horse a Los Angeles race drama Crash which got a late and unexpected surge of support and overtook hot favorite Brokeback Mountain. The win made headlines and created a buzz.

7. Britney Spears poster featuring a **** and pregnant Britney created a furor after which Tokyo subway officials decided to reverse a ban on display of the posters.

8. A fairy tale romance and marriage means news in Hollywood especially when the couple is Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Scientology and a wedding in Italy added spice to the occasion and the wedding was popular news.

9. Oops mistakes happen even at BBC news. In the Apple versus Apple court case interviewed the wrong “Guy” was put in front of the camera. Instead of IT expert Guy Kewney a newcomer looking for a job Guy Goma was put on air.

10. The world looked forward to and enjoyed the new 007 film. The film created such excitement, that even the Queen of England went to see it.

Entertainment news and views vary and choices depend on individual taste. CNN news, Variety, and MSN have showcased online their choices as also a zillion other reviewers. While some based their lists on expert choices or the number of times a news story was read, others conducted online polls.

As always what the rich and famous do is interesting and entertaining as the year drew to a close people in media were busy trying to review the year and present its highs and lows to the discerning public on the World Wide Web. And now, it is time to open our minds and hearts to the year that has dawned and look forward to fulfillment in every way.

Is it liberal media bias when news programs show the names of the soldiers that died?

What about when they do programs about the injured amputee soldiers in military hospitals?

Is that liberal media bias?

Should we hide the cost of the war from the American people for the sake of morale?

Is it unAmerican to show the cost of war as it is?
